Information on making referrals to the Advocacy Service

How do I make a referral to the Advocacy Service?

Referrals can be made by telephone on 0116 2229522 during working hours (except 9.00am-11.30am on Tuesdays, answerphone available).  Referral forms are also available to download on this website (see below) and can be faxed to 0116 2229552 or posted to LCPT, 5th Floor, St John's House, 30 East Street, Leicester LE1 7NB.

How will the Advocacy Service respond following a referral?

All referrals will be acknowledged as they are received and will be initially screened to determine whether or not urgent action is required.  Responses to high priority cases will be actioned within 24 hours or the referral being received (during the working week).  Responses to low priority cases will be actioned within 5 working days of the referral being received.

Initial screening will be undertaken by advocacy workers to ensure that the identified need related directly to an issue regarding accessing adult social care services, or to an issue with a change to services already being received, or a perceived need to change a care package.  If the service user's needs do not relate to the adult social care pathway, Advocacy Workers will advise the referrer or service user of this and will endeavour to signpost to the most appropriate service.

Where is the Advocacy Service based and where will service users be seen?

The Advocacy Workers will be based at LCPT's premises at St John's House and services users could be seen at this location if they find it convenient.  However, it is anticipated that the vast majority of people will be seen either at a location in the county close to their place of residence, or in their own homes.
