Structured Day Care
The LCPT Structured Day Care Services are run from our offices at 29 New Walk, in Leicester City Centre. The Structured Day Care program is a real alternative to residential rehab whilst keeping clients based within their community.
The service is designed to allow users to regain some control over their lives following drug/alcohol use and allows them to make changes to achieve and maintain a healthier and safer lifestyle.
The Group Programme
The Structured Day Care Service runs a combined programme for drug and alcohol users. The service runs a social group (with activities such as arts and crafts and watching videos) Drop-in sessions and complimentary therapy throughout the programme. The structured groups run through six stages over approximately 28 weeks:-
- Stage I: Motivation Group (no time limit)
This group supports people who are more chaotic in their drug or alcohol use, it works to identify individual strengths and areas for development to support and change in substance use.
- Stage II: Induction Session (no time limit)
This stage prepares clients for the Life Skills Group. Clients have the chance to talk about what's been happening to them and how they have coped. Brief harm-minimisation and relapse-preventation information is also provided. There are opportunities to meet with current and ex service users who will talk about their experience at the Structured Day Programme.
- Stage III: Life Skills Group (8 - 9 weeks)
The Life Skills Group runs for 2 or 3 sessions per week lasting around 2 – 3 hours. This covers topics such as Substance Education, Relapse Prevention, Assertiveness, Managing Emotions, managing worrying thoughts and Problem Solving. During this part of the programme clients are encouraged to complete their own personal group-work handbook. These sessions allow clients to gain the skills needed to move their lives forward and increase their chances of remaining in control of their substance use, or remaining alcohol or drug free.
- Stage IV: Discussion Group (15 weeks)
Clients have an opportunity to talk openly in a confidential, non-judgemental environment about the progress they are making and any difficulties that might arise. The group allows clients to get continuing support and feedback on their progress on how they are using the new skills they have learnt. Clients are not expected to discuss very personal or highly emotional issues. The discussion groups run weekly. This stage also allows for a Woman’s Group, consisting of 4 sessions, and some limited One-to-One casework. These groups maintain and reinforce the skills already studied and put to use in day-to-day life.
- Stage V: Moving On Group (5 weeks)
As clients come towards the end of their time in the project and feel ready to leave they are invited to join the Moving on Group. These sessions are held once a week. The aim of the group is to help clients prepare for leaving the programme and how to make the best use of the new skills they have learnt in the future.
- Stage VI: Aftercare (ongoing)
Once clients have left the programme, they can still use the Social Group, acupuncture clinic and drop-in clinic for additional support.
