The Anchor Centre
The Anchor Centre has been a day centre for over 30 years, originally set up for ex-offenders. Although it worked in similar areas, it only recently became part of the LCPT.
In July 2000 a wet room was introduced as part of its day centre work. This was only the 3rd wet room to be opened within the
The Anchor Centre's is different to the rest of the Trust's services as it allows clients to drink inside the building. The work is very important in allowing people to access support and intervention they would not otherwise have the opportunity to use.
Alongside the wet room, the Anchor Centre works with people with major care needs requiring long term support, or for drinkers and drug users who have motivation and ability to achieve some progress and move on from The Centre. The Centre works with clients who have specific drug or alcohol problems, and clients who are polyusers, having dependency on both drugs and alcohol. Most of the centre users are homeless or ex homeless and dealing with housing problems and referral onto other support services is a key part of the role.
The Anchor Centre also provides access to IT and informal activities as well as shower, haircuts and refreshment. In addition reflexology and other therapies are available. GP and Drug and Alcohol Workers hold sessions at the centre.
The Anchor Centre's opening hours are :-
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays 10am - 4.00pm
Wednesday 10.30am - 4.00pm except for the 4th Wednesday in each month when it opens at 1.00pm
People who want to access the day centre must have a dependency problem with drugs or alcohol and can self refer or be referred by another agency. They will be interviewed by a project worker who will do an assessment and then decide whether they can go on the attendance list or are better dealt with by another service.
